Fannie Tutt's – Lemon Meringue Moonshine | Product Photography | Hagerstown, MD

As a business primarily focused on wedding photography and video services, it is often overlooked that we can do more than just weddings. While weddings are the cornerstone of our business model, product photography is absolutely within our capability.

One of the biggest differences in photographing products versus people is lighting. In this particular photo shoot, we were working with this gorgeous Fannie Tutt's Lemon Meringue Moonshine bottle. While the bottle itself is a work of art, it also poses many challenges when photographing.

The first challenge is the reflective surface of the glass. While it's important to minimize harsh glares or reflections, we also don't want the image to be so flat and boring that we lose the artistic values of it. The bottle is also a cylinder, which poses many more challenges since it is also reflective. There is almost no direction where we can take a photograph of the bottle and not see some type of reflection.

There are never any exact rules on how to take photographs, so much of our work is personal preference. But what I find to be one of the most engaging ways to take a product photograph is strong back light so you see the shadow coming towards you. As you can see in the bottom of most photos, the strongest shadow is pointed directly forward. Then, I use softer lights almost straight on and evenly balanced facing the product. I think it looks pretty good. Feel free to share your thoughts!
